Why Do People Get Acupuncture?
This is a question I get a lot, especially from other health professionals. And I can understand why as Chinese Medicine is still not widely understood within our current medical model.
However, research into acupuncture as a medical treatment has grown exponentially in the past 20 years, increasing at twice the rate of research into conventional biomedicine. There are now well over 15,000 acupuncture controlled clinical trials (2022) listed in the Cochrane database of clinical trials! While much more research is needed to confirm the use of acupuncture for specific conditions, the list below shows why people come to the clinic.
This is what an average week might look like for me.
Pain (usually neck, back, knees)
Recovery from sporting injuries
Fertility/IVF Support
Menstrual issues such as PMS, pain, digestive changes
Digestive support - IBS is the main digestive complaint I see but I also see chronic constipation
Low energy levels
Erectile dysfunction
Headaches/Migraines
Mood support - Mostly anxiety
Insomnia
Menopause symptoms
As you can see, the list is pretty varied but gives you a little insight in why people seek out Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.
